CATTLab People

Lab Directors

Professor Andy Field: I am currently Professor of Child Psychopathology and have published over 65 papers mainly on the development of fears in children. I founded the CATTLab in 2007.

Dr. Sam Cartwright-Hatton: I am a clinical psychologist and senior researcher with interests in the development and treatment of child anxiety. In the past I have had a 3-year NHS executive fellowship to develop my research in anxiety in childhood, followed by a 4-year MRC Clinician Scientist Fellowship, to trial a new intervention for families of young anxious children. I joined the University of Sussex in 2011 with an NIHR Career Development Award to develop and test a preventative intervention aimed at families with an anxious parent.

Current Lab Members

Suzanne Dash: Suzanne is a research assistant on Sam's ASPI project. She is particularly interested in the ways that poverty and living in deprived neighbourhoods affect the development of anxiety. Alongside working on the ASPI project, Suzanne is also studying for her Ph.D. at the University of Sussex in which she is exploring mechanisms of worry.

Donna Ewing: Donna is currently doing her Ph.D. with Sam (and Andy) on the effects of sleepiness on children’s anxious behaviour. She is exploring this in terms of vicarious learning, attentional bias towards threat, response to ambiguous situations, and emotion recognition.
Zoe Field: Zoe works alongside Andy as an assistant with CATTLab research projects. They also collaborate on various textbooks and articles together.
Laura Pearce: Laura is currently doing an M.Res. in preparation for a D.Phil., which will commence in 2012. Her research looks at the emotional impact of televised media on children.
